Acquiring New Images
Willamette University faculty and staff may request that new images be to Academic Commons collections. There are several ways to do this.
- Order images through the Hatfield Library. The Library maintains accounts with several online image vendors. Purchasing images and metadata from a vendor is the best way to acquire images whenever an appropriate, reasonably priced copy is available. Image orders and requests should be directed to Ford Schmidt, 503-375-5407.
- Use images from publicly accessible web sites. Images in the public domain may be added to the Academic Commons when there is good reason to do so. For example, a high-resolution image from an image sharing site like flickr, distributed using a Creative Commons License, might be added to the Academic Commons to assure reliable future reuse.
- Add images owned by the University or individual faculty. Images from other University or personal collections may be added when they meet the curricular and research goals of the Academic Commons.
- Acquire copyrighted images under fair use guidelines. Copyrighted images may be scanned or otherwise acquired, consistent with non-profit, educational fair use. See the Academic Commons Copyright Policy. Access to these images will be restricted.
For more information on acquiring images, contact Michael Spalti, 503-370-6356.
