Biographical/Historical Note

Edna Price was an 1896 graduate of Willamette University. Her fiancé, Corporal Harry (Hal) Glen Hibbard, a student of the Willamette School of Oratory, died of typhoid fever in Manila on December 9, 1898, while serving with the Second Oregon Volunteer Infantry in the Spanish-American War. He was granted a posthumous degree in 1899. After graduating, Price did secretarial work until her marriage in 1903 to Reverend Samuel H. Jones, an Irish Presbyterian minister. They lived in Jacksonville and Salem, Oregon, as well as Nevada and Texas. The couple had three children, two of whom died in childhood. Their son, Malcolm, attended Willamette from 1932 to 1938 and received both A.B. and L.L.B. degrees. Price’s grandson, Malcolm Jones, Jr., likewise attended Willamette in the late 1950’s. Price passed away at the age of 92 on May 3, 1970.
