Biographical Note

Historical Note

The Office of Student Activities (OSA) provides students with co-curricular involvement opportunities. As the advising office of Willamette University student organizations, OSA oversees the Associated Students of Willamette University (ASWU). ASWU is comprised of the student representatives elected to serve the Willamette University student body. The main goal of ASWU is to “improve the Willamette campus and voice the concerns of students.” ASWU administers student fees to fund the variety of student organizations as well as the Collegiate Readership Program, the Willamette Events Board, the Collegian and ASWU Sound. ASWU is also instrumental in annual campus activities such as Black Tie and Wulapalooza.

In addition to advising ASWU, OSA advises students in the creation of and involvement in student clubs and organizations. Student organizations include honorary, religious, political, academic, and service groups. These also include the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils, and campus Fraternities and Sororities.

The Office of Student Activities additionally oversees the coordination of some of Willamette Universities’ annual student-led events, chiefly, Opening Days and Parent and Family Weekend. Opening Days is the freshman and transfer student orientation week in which students participate upon their arrival. Key events during Opening Days include skits put on by the Opening Days staff that introduces students to their University experience.
